Ways To Prevent Tb Health And Social Care Essay
Michael does non cognize accurately when he contracted TB, however he figures it must hold been at some point during August 2007 in Bangkok. Prior to the start of his side effects, he did non go to any topographic focuses that appeared to be especially inclined to TB. He could hold got it wherever, in a jam-packed disco, a cantina, or even simply sitting in a taxi with a septic driver. Tuberculosis is transmitted through the air when individual contaminated with TB hacks, sneezings, tongues, giggles, or exchanges. By making these things, they spread the Terbium sources noticeable all around, and individual can get them from take a taking in the sources and presenting it to their lungs or mucose layer. The hatching time of TB is wherever intercede two to twelve hebdomads. In this manner, the visual part of side effects may non occur until months after the principal presentation to the bacterium. There are numerous side effects related with TB, however they are non ever a noteworthy characteristic of an infection each piece genuine as this and are as often as possible confused with something significantly less horrendous. Some normal side effects of TB are an invariable hack with mucous emission, hacking up blood, unreasonable dim exercise suits, exhaustion, febrility, and unwilled weight reduction. Some additional indications incorporate difficulty outside breath, chest strivings, and wheezing. Michael ââ¬Ës first imprint that something was mistaken was an occurrence of the icinesss on an ordinary vesiculation hot twenty-four hours in the focal point of Bangkok. A couple of hebdomads along these lines, he started to hack and experience a stinging which he, at that cut, thought w as in his dorsum. His status immediately turned out to be more regrettable and more awful, and two hebdomads after his hack chief showed up, he went to see a doctor at the taking worldwide hospital in Bangkok. The doctor finished up it was just a disease and gave him a few anti-infection agents. Of class, the anti-infection agents had no result, thus he returned to see a lung specializer. The specializer closed equivalent to the main doctor, however this clasp Michael demanded a X beam. The X beam indicated large blurred nations at the underside of the lungs. Liquid around the lung, alongside swollen or stamp lymph hubs in the cervix or different nations, and bizarre breath sounds, are a couple of signs of TB. She disclosed to him that it was either lung harmful neoplastic malady or TB, and she requested that he hack up some mucus, mucous emission like stuff from the lungs, so it could be broke down. She other than prescribed him to obtain a HIV preliminary in light of the fact that numerous individuals in Thailand have HIV before TB. Luckily, the HIV preliminary returned negative, yet that equivalent twenty-four hours he was gotten back to the doctor ââ¬Ës and formally told he had TB. A specific hospital was to make a more inside and out investigation, however Michael was endorsed his mediation directly off. As referenced previously, TB is incredibly infective as a result of its capacity to be transmitted through the air. The infective time of this ailment is hard to track down as a set aggregate of yearss or hebdomads or months. In principle, TB can be spread each piece long as the bacteriums are effectively being discharged from the septic individual ââ¬Ës mucus. In any case, the best chance of passing on the disease is during the period before diagnosing. The risk of passing on the contamination is significantly diminished inside yearss to two hebdomads after get bringing down mediation. This is the reason it is fundamentally of import to obtain a fast diagnosing of TB and get down taking medication each piece in a matter of seconds as could be expected under the circumstances. There are approaches to hinder TB. The Bacille Calmette-Gu and A ; eacute ; rin ( BCG ) immunization is adequate for cut bringing down TB meningitis and perish in kids, however it is simply utilized in states with high peril for TB for it is just solid for a brief time of clasp. Truth be told, Michael had gotten this vaccination when he was conceived in Denmark, however he was told after he was analyzed it was not, at this point adequate. PPD covering preliminaries are accessible in high peril populaces and for individuals presented to TB, for example, doctors and medical attendants. A constructive covering preliminary shows contact with the bacteriums, and brief intercession is basic to thwart the spread of the bacteriums from individuals with dynamic Terbium to those ne'er tainted. All states are required to portray data about TB reconnaissance to the World Health Organization. This data is utilized to sort out processs to order the planetary spread of the malady. An individual contaminated with TB ought to be disconnected at place or a clinic for 2-4 hebdomads till they are non infectious any more. TB is typically rewarded by a standard half year class of the four medications isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol. It is basic that these prescriptions be taken each piece recommended to thwart the bacterium from going impervious to the medications doing it harder to deal with. On the off chance that the medications are non being taken right, patients might be sent to straight watched treatment where they are watched taking their clinical claim to fame a few times a hebdomad. Michael ââ¬Ës hacking immediately diminished subsequent to being put on the medications, and his back/lung harming disappeared in the wake of holding the fluid in his lungs expelled. Making sure to take his clinical fortes a few times all through the twenty-four hours, without ever hopping, was a test, yet he was resolved. He was acceptable educated by his doctors about symptoms and various things he could non make. He encountered holding about rosy piss and recalled no intoxicant was permitted during the half year intercession. Despite the fact that he knew nil about TB before his diagnosing, he tuned in to his doctors and was shrewd bounty non to end taking his clinical claim to fame after the initial hardly any hebdomads when his manifestations went off. He realized how of import it was to stay on them all the time, and the half year intercession was a triumph. Terbium has the best chance of returning in the two mature ages after a fruitful intercession, thus today, he is takin g better consideration of himself, doing sure to keep up his resistant framework solid. He remains solid intellectually and truly, and he is persuaded he ââ¬Ës all in TB one time and for all. Tuberculosis is a treatable infection, however certain fortunes can do mediation an increasingly drawn-out, costly, and unsafe endeavor. Suren Arakelyan is a 40 four twelvemonth old grown-up male by and by shacking in an Abovyan hospital on the edges of Yerevan the capital of Armenia, his local spot. He has been fighting TB for 15 mature ages since undertaking it after a short remain in a Russian jail for a slam in St. Petersburg. Sketchy anti-infection agents vanquished the malady one time, however it returned in 2008 in the signifier XDR-TB, broadly tranquilize safe TB. XDR-TB is one signifier of medication safe TB. Medication safe TB is the point at which the bacterium become invulnerable to the medications regularly used to deal with TB. This can go on when endorsed the inaccurate mediation, dose, as well as length of clasp, when the medications are inaccessible or of terrible quality, when individuals do non take the entirety of their Terbium meds or take them all the time, when they create TB for a second clasp, or when they are tainted by individual with tranquilize safe TB. Multi-medicate resistant TB ( MDR-TB ) is the point at which the bacterium is unaffected by a lower breaking point of INH and Rifadin, the most every now and again utilized and solid TB meds. Widely medicate safe TB is a phenomenal sort of MDR-TB that is unaffected by INH and Rifadin, fluoroquinolone, and a lower breaking point of one of the three injectable second-line drugs (, for example, amikacin, Kantrex, or capreomycin ) . XDR-TB is resistant to the most grounded first-line and second-line TB drugs, and consequently intercession of this strain is less strong, progressively costly, and inclined to increasingly symptoms. Medication safe TB may require up to two mature ages of chemotherapy relying upon what number of medications the bacteriums are invulnerable to. Arakelyan is thin and miserable, and he has lost a large portion of his lung tissue from the illness and a lot of his hearing because of the poisonous medications. He is forlorn and isolated from his family unit, a wedded lady and youthful children, who live in far off Belarus. Miserable, he skips and rejects a portion of his recommended prescriptions, the reactions on his natural structure too much difficult to hold up under, however this solitary exacerbates his situation and fortifies the bacterium ââ¬Ës resistance. Taking the entirety of the prescriptions decisively as they were recommended and ne'er losing or ending mediation early are the most ideal approaches to prevent sedate safe TB. Bing quickly analyzed and get bringing down mediation in a split second and confining introduction to those tainted with sedate safe TB will other than help prevent MDR-TB or XDR-TB. Researchers persistently lead examination to happen better mediations for TB. Researchers at Yeshiva University in Bronx, NY are investigating how TB contaminates/causes malady in universes, how the human resistant framework reacts, and setting the elements that permit the perseverance and multiplication of the bacteriums in the host. They are other than dissecting the instruments of medication resistance and how M. TB can keep going since quite a while ago run sedate mediations to discover progressively strong medications and techniques for intercession against TB. They move in the direction of making new amazing vaccinums to break forestall and secure against all strains of TB. Researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago work to upgrade against TB medications to slaughter the bacteriums while being less harmful/non-poisonous to human cells. They are other than investigating the utilization of normal stocks against TB and creating apparatuses to help break the find of new m edications. Tuberculosis was n't one time called ingestion and the cachexia illness for nil. Without legitimate mediation, TB can be life imperiling and if non can in any case do life hard and languishing. Insurances ought to ever be taken in high danger nations until the twenty-four hours when researchers find an unmistakable cure.

What You Need to Know About Gables
A gable is the triangular wall formed by a sloping roof. The roof is not the gable ââ¬â the wall is the gable down to the roof line, but you generally need a gable roof to have a gable. Its common to name the triangular area made from a gambrel roof a gable, as well. Some definitions even include the end edges of the roof as part of the gable. When discussing gables with your architect or contractor, dont be shy about asking what their definition is. For example, some people call the gable wall as the wall on the gable side right down to the foundation. Others rightly call the gable wall as that part of the siding between the slopes of the roof. In general, the distinguishing feature of the gable is its triangular shape. Origins of the Word Gable Pronouned GAY-bull, the word gable may be derived from the Greek word kephalÃâ meaning head. Gabel, the German word for a tined fork, seems to be a closer and more recent match to todays definition. One can imagine the impromptu construction projects at the German dining table using utensils to create primitive hut types of buildings ââ¬â balancing forks, intertwined tines, into tent-like constructions. More Definitions of Gable the triangular portion of a wall defined by the sloping edges of the roof and a horizontal line between the eave line. Can also be a gabled dormer. ââ¬â John Milnes Baker, AIA 1. The vertical triangular portion of the end of a building having a double-sloping roof, from the level of the cornice or eaves to the ridge of the roof. 2. A similar end when not triangular in shape, as of a gambrel roof or the like. ââ¬â Dictionary of Architecture and Construction Types of Gables A building with a gable roof may be front-gabled, side-gabled, or cross-gabled. Like the illustration shown here, cross-gabled buildings have gables both on the front and on the side, created by a valley roof. Porches and dormers may be gabled. Gable dormers are actually specialized windows ââ¬â or windows in gables. A pediment is a specific type of classical gable, less functionally dependent on the roof and more structurally useful atop a series of columns or as decoration above a door or window. Gables can extend above the roof line in fanciful designs or, more often, in parapets. The corbiestep is a parapet that can exaggerate the gable. Photos of gables show the varieties that can be found around the world. Different architectural styles, sizes, and decoration make this primitive architectural element come to life throughout the ages. The side gable is typical of Cape Cod style homes, and the front gable is common in many bungalows. Front and side gables are generally part of the Minimal Traditional style post-Depression homes from the mid-20th century. Katrina Cottages and the Katrina Kernel Cottage II are traditionally front-gabled. High-pitched gables are characteristic of Tudor style homes. Look for architectural details that often define a house style. The 1668 Turner-Ingersoll mansion in Salem, Massachusetts may be the most famous gabled house of all ââ¬â the setting of Nathaniel Hawthornes 1851 novel The House of the Seven Gables. The Most Famous Gabled House Has Character How often have we driven by a house with two large front gables and felt that the eyes of the home, with raised brows, were inspecting our every move? The American author Nathaniel Hawthorne created such a character in his 19th century novel The House of the Seven Gables. The aspect of the venerable mansion has always affected me like a human countenance, says the books narrator in Chapter 1.à Like a human face? The deep projection of the second story gave the house such a meditative look, that you could not pass it without the idea that it had secrets to keep, and an eventful history to moralize upon. ââ¬â Chapter 1 Hawthornes book makes us pause at these questions: What gives character to a home ââ¬â and what architectural details make your home a character? It could be the gables. The house gables in Hawthornes 1851 book seem to interact with the other characters: But, as the sunlight left the peaks of the Seven Gables, so did the excitement fade out of Cliffords eyes. ââ¬â Chapter 10 There was a vertical sundial on the front gable; and as the carpenter passed beneath it, he looked up and noted the hour. ââ¬â Chapter 13 Nathaniel Hawthorne skillfully describes the gabled house as a living, breathing entity. The house, with all its gables, not only has character but also is a character in the novel. It breathes and is warmed by its burning (fireplace) heart: The house itself shivered, from every attic of its seven gables down to the great kitchen fireplace, which served all the better as an emblem of the mansions heart, because, though built for warmth, it was now so comfortless and empty. ââ¬â Chapter 15 The human qualities of Hawthornes house create a haunting image. The gabled dwelling becomes the haunted house of New England storytelling. Can a house style or architectural detail get a reputation ââ¬â like a person can get a reputation from behaviors? The American author Nathaniel Hawthorne suggests that it can. Nathaniel Hawthornes inspiration for the setting of his famous 1851 novel seems to be his cousins house in Salem, Massachusetts. What we know as The House of the Seven Gables was originally built in 1668 by a sea captain named John Turner. Critical Thinking Reasoning and Inference Essays
Truth is the object of thinking. Some truths are obvious; others are difficult to acquire. Some judgments we make are simple; some judgments are complicated. Some arguments, whether made by us or others, may be straightforward and easily understood; other arguments may be complex and consist of a series of smaller arguments, each needing to be critically examined and evaluated. Almost every object of knowledge has a branch of knowledge which studies it. Planets, stars, and galaxies are studied by astronomy. Chemistry studies the structure, composition, and properties of material substances and the transformations they undergo. The origin, evolution, and development of human society is the object studied by sociology. Scientific logic, on the other hand, is simply our natural logic trained and developed to expertness by means of well-established knowledge of the principles, laws, and methods which underlie the various operations of the mind in the pursuit of and attainment of truth. We have referred to the quot;sciencequot; of logic but logic is really more than just a science. The science part is the knowledge of the principles, laws, and methods of logic itself. This is important, to be sure. But logic must be put into action or else the knowledge provided within the science of logic is of little use. We can, therefore, also speak of the quot;artquot; of logic, that is, the practical application of the science of logic to our everyday affairs. Logic is not intended merely to inform or instruct. It is also directive and aims at assisting us in the proper use of our power of reasoning. In this sense, we can speak of logic as both a science and an art, a practical art meant to be applied in our ordinary affairs. Succubus on Top CHAPTER 17 Free Essays
ââ¬Å"Should I put up Lorelei Biljanââ¬â¢s posters now? Or wait until after E. J. Putnamââ¬â¢s gone?â⬠I looked up from the invoices on my desk. We will write a custom essay sample on Succubus on Top CHAPTER 17 or any similar topic only for you Order Now Iââ¬â¢d just reread the same line of numbers about five times without comprehending any of it, and I was having only a little better luck parsing Tammiââ¬â¢s question. I rubbed my eyes. ââ¬Å"Whyâ⬠¦would we wait?â⬠She shrugged. ââ¬Å"Dunno. Just seems kind of rude to be advertising one author during another oneââ¬â¢s signing.â⬠My mind moved slowly, probably because only 5 percent of it was actually here at the bookstore. The rest of my brainpower attempted to muddle through the disaster that was my life. ââ¬Å"Umâ⬠¦no, it doesnââ¬â¢t matter. Put them both up. Theyââ¬â¢re only a week apart, and we want Biljan to get a fair shot at publicity too. Besides, I donââ¬â¢t think authors really get worked up over competition like that. Theyââ¬â¢re pretty low-key.â⬠Tammi ran a hand through her short red hair. ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t know. Theyââ¬â¢re famous and artistic. Seems like thatââ¬â¢s a bad combination. Temperamental and stuff. Not all writers can be like Seth. In fact, I bet when he gets angry enough about something, he could really let someone have it.â⬠ââ¬Å"Anything else?â⬠I asked, a sharp note of dismissal in my voice. ââ¬Å"Otherwise, just put up all the posters, okay?â⬠She gave me a startled look and left the office. When the door closed, I put my head down on the desk and groaned. Tammi, in her blissful adolescent naà §?te, had no idea how close to home she had hit. Like her, I too believed Seth could display a lot of anger if given enough cause. Like, say, his girlfriend cheating on him. True, Bastien had been right in saying Seth and I had loose definitions of ââ¬Å"cheating,â⬠but even I knew what did and did not qualify. There was no gray area here. No mutability. I had fucked up hard-core. Iââ¬â¢d known it too, lying there in that unholy union with Bastien. After my sleepless night, Iââ¬â¢d left him around dawn and took a cab back to Queen Anne, my body still aching. I hadnââ¬â¢t wanted to talk to him. Heââ¬â¢d slept so heavily, he hadnââ¬â¢t heard me leave. No guilt weighed him down. But me? My cup of guilt was runnething over. Not only that, I still had to make the next decision in this mess: to tell or not to tell? That was what had really bothered me all day at work. The past was over; I could only worry about it for so long. My attention now focused on how to proceed with the future. Fortunately, Seth had worked from home today, which helped a little. He and I eventually had plans to meet up in the evening, but until that happened, I still had time to come up with something. Anything. Yet when I walked home at the end of my shift, I was no closer to an answer than I had been at the beginning of the day. Miserable, I pulled up a chair at my kitchen table and sat down with pen and paper. Aubrey jumped up on the tableââ¬â¢s flat surface and lay down to watch me, half of her sprawling on the page. I slid her off and made the following list: DONT TELL SETH Pros: status quo resumes, he wonââ¬â¢t be upset Cons: my own gnawing guilt, totally blowing the honesty thing I considered the list for a moment, surprised that neither the pro nor con side had more items. It was just that simple. Moving farther down the paper, I wrote up the reciprocal list. TELL SETH Pros: right thing to do Cons: admitting Iââ¬â¢m an idiot, painfully emotional blowout, inevitable breakup, a literal eternity of heart-wrenching sorrow and regret I held the pen and looked back and forth between both lists. ââ¬Å"This isnââ¬â¢t really clearing things up, Aubrey.â⬠In an effort to relieve my frustration, I hurled the pen somewhere into my living room. She watched it sail off with interest and then darted off to confirm the kill. ââ¬Å"What do you need to tell Seth?â⬠ââ¬Å"Jesus!â⬠I yelled, practically jumping ten feet in the air. Carter had appeared out of nowhere and now stood beside the table, looking casual and laconic. He wore a black T-shirt over a gray thermal shirt and the same jeans I swear heââ¬â¢d had on for the last couple decades. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t do that, okay? Knocking isnââ¬â¢t a lost art.â⬠ââ¬Å"Sorry.â⬠He pulled a chair out and straddled it, so his long arms draped lazily over the back. Flipping his stringy blond hair out of the way, he gestured toward my list. ââ¬Å"Didnââ¬â¢t mean to interrupt.â⬠ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re not,â⬠I muttered, crumpling up the paper. I tossed that into the living room too, so Aubrey could have more to hunt. ââ¬Å"Anything you want to talk about?â⬠he offered. I hesitated. Of all the people I knew, only Carter had been a steadfast believer in Seth and me having a serious relationship. He was the only one who hadnââ¬â¢t treated it as a joke. In some ways, that might have made him a good confidante, yet it also disqualified him. I could not confess to the one person who had believed in me just how seriously I had messed things up in a weak moment. ââ¬Å"No,â⬠I said brusquely. ââ¬Å"But I assume you have something to talk about.â⬠He eyed me a moment, like he might push me on what I clearly held back, but then he let the matter go. ââ¬Å"I have something for you.â⬠He extended a balled fist. When he opened it, I found a small pouch lying on his palm. I picked it up and stroked the material. I had no idea what it was, but the clothââ¬â¢s smooth texture felt like a flower petal. I started to open it. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t,â⬠he warned. His commanding tone instantly made me stop. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢ll break the spell.â⬠ââ¬Å"What spell?â⬠ââ¬Å"The one that masks whatââ¬â¢s inside the pouch. And the one that masks your immortal signature. ââ¬Å" I nodded with understanding. I might not know what to do with my own love life, but immortal conspiracies I could follow. ââ¬Å"To hide me and this from Alecââ¬â¢s supplier.â⬠The angel nodded in return. I held up the pouch and waggled it at him. ââ¬Å"So do I get to know whatââ¬â¢s in there?â⬠ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s aâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ He paused, not from a reluctance to tell me but to search for the right word. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s a dart, I guess. Or maybeâ⬠¦like, an arrowhead. But that sounds weird. Nah, letââ¬â¢s call it a dart. Itââ¬â¢s only about an inch long. A dart that looks like a small wooden arrowhead.â⬠ââ¬Å"Um. Okay. Got it. And what do I do with this darting arrowhead thing?â⬠ââ¬Å"You pierce the other immortalââ¬â¢s heart with it.â⬠ââ¬Å"Whoa. Likeâ⬠¦staking a vampire?â⬠ââ¬Å"Uh, not entirely. Youââ¬â¢ll sort of have to see when the time comes. The key is to move fast. As soon as you open the pouch, heââ¬â¢ll know what you are and whatââ¬â¢s in there. You donââ¬â¢t want to give him time to react because it wonââ¬â¢t be pretty if he does. Act fast, and donââ¬â¢t second-guess yourself.â⬠ââ¬Å"How is a small piece of wood going to solve all our problems?â⬠ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s special wood,â⬠he replied with a grin. ââ¬Å"Oh, yeah, that explains everything.â⬠ââ¬Å"Are you close to meeting him?â⬠ââ¬Å"Terribly close, actually. I probably could have met him yesterday if Iââ¬â¢d wanted. Alec was very keen on introducing us.â⬠Carter frowned, turning this over in his mind. ââ¬Å"Hmm. Odd.â⬠ââ¬Å"Should I be worried?â⬠ââ¬Å"No more worried than you already should be at the thought of attacking an immortal.â⬠ââ¬Å"But Iââ¬â¢ll be fine if I just act fast and donââ¬â¢t overthink it, huh?â⬠ââ¬Å"Right. I imagine thatââ¬â¢s pretty common for you anyway.â⬠ââ¬Å"Anything else I should know?â⬠ââ¬Å"Wellâ⬠¦letââ¬â¢s see. Yeah. One thing. Donââ¬â¢t actually do it until thereââ¬â¢s provocation.â⬠ââ¬Å"What?â⬠I stared. ââ¬Å"Being a bastard who pushes addictive substances that destroy mortals isnââ¬â¢t provocation enough?â⬠ââ¬Å"Oddly, no. You have to be threatened in some way.â⬠Annoyed, I tossed the pouch onto the table. This was so typical of Carter and Jerome. A bizarrely complex scheme with ridiculous nuances and loopholes. ââ¬Å"Threatened? How can he threaten me? He canââ¬â¢t unlessâ⬠¦wait, heââ¬â¢s not an immortal who could kill me, is he?â⬠ââ¬Å"No, of course not. But he could make things veryâ⬠¦uncomfortable for you. Anyway, thereââ¬â¢s a lot of ways to threaten a person. If he hurts youâ⬠¦or you feel vulnerableâ⬠¦like he could abuse his power over you, then thatââ¬â¢ll work. Heââ¬â¢s a stronger immortal than you. Preying on you ââ¬â especially when you belong to Jerome, so to speak ââ¬â is a big no-no. You would be justified in protecting yourself. But, if you attack wantonly, youââ¬â¢ll get in trouble from the powers that be for targeting other immortals. Youââ¬â¢ll also get us in trouble for arming you.â⬠ââ¬Å"This sounds kind of like entrapment.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s an ugly word. Letââ¬â¢s just keep it in terms of self-defense.â⬠ââ¬Å"So, you think things are going to get rough enough that Iââ¬â¢ll actually need self-defense?â⬠He hesitated. ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t know. I just donââ¬â¢t know.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah, but then, if this guyââ¬â¢s perfectly nice and just sells me a stash of ambrosia, I canââ¬â¢t do anything? Weââ¬â¢ve wasted the trip?â⬠ââ¬Å"Like I said, I donââ¬â¢t know. Really. But honestlyâ⬠¦if theyââ¬â¢re making it this easy to find him, I have to think something weird is going on. Just be careful, okay?â⬠His face was all seriousness now. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re smart. You can pull this off.â⬠ââ¬Å"And I donââ¬â¢t suppose, at any point in this, youââ¬â¢re going to tell me who this guy actually is?â⬠ââ¬Å"I believe ignorance is bliss.â⬠I threw my hands up, not knowing what else to say. Carter traded a few more jokes with me and then rose to go. Hesitating, he gave me a curious look. ââ¬Å"You sure you donââ¬â¢t want to talk? Youââ¬â¢ve obviously got something bugging you. ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"I do. But Iââ¬â¢ve got to deal with it on my own.â⬠ââ¬Å"Fair enough. See ya.â⬠An eyeblink later, the angel disappeared. Seth showed up about an hour later, a little blue paint smudged on his face. ââ¬Å"Terry and Andrea are painting the kitchen now.â⬠I smiled at him, swallowing all the churning emotions within me. ââ¬Å"How can you get so messy when you donââ¬â¢t even do the painting?â⬠I found a washcloth and dabbed at his face in a fruitless effort to clean him up. Standing so close, I suddenly had a flashback to last night. His hands stroking my breasts. Feeling him inside of me, filling me up. Our bodies moving together. His lips parting slightly when he came. ââ¬Å"It wonââ¬â¢t come off,â⬠I said abruptly, jerking away. ââ¬Å"Oh. Okay.â⬠I stayed moody and silent for the rest of the night, stiff and distant at any sort of touching. Seth picked up on the vibe right away and let me have my space. We walked a few blocks down the street to a theater that only showed Oscar nominees and artsy, independent films. We saw one of the latter, and I have to admit, it did take my mind off my love life, if only for two hours. Sitting at an Italian restaurant afterward, I let him draw me into a discussion of the filmââ¬â¢s merits. It amazed me that my mouth could keep up with the conversation while the rest of me was in an entirely different world. Over and over, I replayed what had happened last night ââ¬â and not just the sex part. I analyzed everything, the events that had led up to it. Why had I done it? What had made me give in? Had it really been an altruistic attempt to fix Seth and me by removing the temptation? Had it been an aching desire to take comfort in Bastien? Or, most likely, had it been something selfish on my part? A burning desire to touch what I wasnââ¬â¢t supposed to have ââ¬â not because it might help our relationship, but because I just wanted to do it. I had wanted that pleasure. I had craved his body and simply gave in to the hedonism I longed for. I was a creature of hell, after all. I had observed before that we werenââ¬â¢t exactly known for our self-control. Yet none of that changed the fact that it had happened. It had happened, and I had to do something about it. Orâ⬠¦did I? Seth sat across from me, looking happy and content as we talked. Ignorance really is bliss sometimes. I thought back to the lists. If he never found out, the truth couldnââ¬â¢t hurt him. We could go on as we had. The only problem would be that I knew the truth. I had to live with this betrayal, not only of our physical relationship but also of our attempts at honesty and openness. One more entry on the list of dark and nasty secrets I already kept. ââ¬Å"You with me, Thetis?â⬠he asked suddenly. ââ¬Å"Huh?â⬠He gave me a small, sweet smile and moved his hand over to hold mine. I squeezed it back. ââ¬Å"You look like youââ¬â¢re miles away. ââ¬Å" I gave him a half-smile in return. Apparently I wasnââ¬â¢t as subtle as I thought. I looked at him, studying those beloved features, and shook my head. I couldnââ¬â¢t do it. I couldnââ¬â¢t tell him. Not yet. ââ¬Å"Just tired,â⬠I lied. We shared a dish of gelato and then returned to my apartment. We had just set up the Scrabble board when I felt immortal signatures approaching. I groaned, not wanting to deal with this. ââ¬Å"Hail, hail, the gangââ¬â¢s all here.â⬠Seth looked puzzled until we heard the knock at the door. I opened it, letting in Hugh, Peter, Cody, and Bastien. ââ¬Å"You are alive,â⬠said Peter cheerfully, smothering me in a hug. ââ¬Å"We tried calling you tonight.â⬠ââ¬Å"And Iââ¬â¢ve been trying to get a hold of you all day,â⬠added Bastien pointedly. I was perfectly aware that he had called me many times. I had purposely not answered my phone. ââ¬Å"Sorry,â⬠I said to all of them. ââ¬Å"Hey, Seth,â⬠said Cody, clapping the writer on the back. The vampire and the rest of the immortals spread themselves out around my living room like they lived there. I gave their giggling and careless behavior a withering glance. ââ¬Å"You guys been barhopping?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yup,â⬠said Hugh with pride. ââ¬Å"You ââ¬â both of you ââ¬â could have joined us.â⬠ââ¬Å"Fortunately, the night is still young,â⬠declared Bastien. He strolled around the living room, arching an appalled eyebrow at the Scrabble board. ââ¬Å"When you didnââ¬â¢t answer, we decided to come issue an invitation in person.â⬠ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re going to go shoot pool,â⬠explained Cody happily. ââ¬Å"Over at that place in Belltown. You guys should come along.â⬠He gave Seth a conspiratorial grin. ââ¬Å"Georginaââ¬â¢s a wicked pool player.â⬠ââ¬Å"Thetis is good at everything,â⬠Seth murmured automatically. I could tell by his body language he wasnââ¬â¢t comfortable with a bunch of drunken immortals in the room. I also knew he didnââ¬â¢t want to go out. ââ¬Å"Sorry, guys,â⬠I told them. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢ve already been out. Weââ¬â¢re staying in.â⬠This earned snide remarks and groans of disapproval. ââ¬Å"Oh come on,â⬠begged Hugh, trying to get Aubreyââ¬â¢s attention with a cat toy on a string. She didnââ¬â¢t fall for it and hissed at him instead. ââ¬Å"We always get better service when you go with us.â⬠ââ¬Å"Besides,â⬠said Bastien nastily. ââ¬Å"It doesnââ¬â¢t look youââ¬â¢re doing anything else exciting. You should be grateful we came along. Weââ¬â¢re giving you something. Something you couldnââ¬â¢t otherwise get.â⬠I remained calm, but I think the others picked up on the sudden tension in the air. ââ¬Å"Sorry,â⬠I repeated. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re staying in. You guys can hang out for a little bit, but then Iââ¬â¢ve got to kick you out. Weââ¬â¢re doing our own thing. ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"I wasnââ¬â¢t aware you guys did anything at all,â⬠muttered Bastien in a voice only I heard. Maybe the vampires too, with their superhuman hearing. ââ¬Å"You got anything to drink?â⬠asked Peter, gently nudging me toward being a good hostess. I was still locked in a battle of wills and eye contact with the incubus. ââ¬Å"Yeah, I just bought a six-pack of Smirnoff Ice.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh,â⬠said Cody. ââ¬Å"Score.â⬠He and Hugh raided my refrigerator, passing out bottles of prissy malted beverage to everyone except Seth and me. We abstained. Lounging around, conversation on silly topics soon ensued, although Bastien, Seth, and I did not participate. Seth stayed quiet because he always stayed quiet in such settings. Bastien and I stayed quiet because we were pissed off at each other. I excused myself for the restroom and found Bastien waiting outside the door for me when I finished. ââ¬Å"Alcohol runs right through you, huh?â⬠I asked, pushing past him. He blocked my way, backing me up against the wall. ââ¬Å"What the hellââ¬â¢s wrong with you?â⬠he demanded in a low voice. ââ¬Å"Nothing. Let me go.â⬠ââ¬Å"Bullshit. I left you like a hundred messages. Youââ¬â¢re avoiding me.â⬠ââ¬Å"So? Itââ¬â¢s my prerogative. Just like that song.â⬠He snorted. ââ¬Å"Let me guess. Youââ¬â¢re having some sort of melodramatic moral crisis over what happened last night. Thatââ¬â¢s so typical of you lately.â⬠ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t talk to me about last night. You shouldnââ¬â¢t have done what you did.â⬠ââ¬Å"Is houldnââ¬â¢t have? My God, Fleur ,donââ¬â¢t act like youââ¬â¢re the victim here. Nobody forced you. You more than consented. In fact, I daresay you enjoyed it.â⬠ââ¬Å"It was a mistake.â⬠ââ¬Å"And so avoiding me is going to fix it? Donââ¬â¢t delude yourself. It wasnââ¬â¢t a mistake. It was good for you. I helped you. I gave you something you would have never gotten otherwise. Youââ¬â¢ll remember it for the rest of your life.â⬠ââ¬Å"Gee,â⬠I said, dripping sarcasm. ââ¬Å"How kind of you. Because thatââ¬â¢s really all there was to it, wasnââ¬â¢t there? You only did it to help me. Nothing more. You certainly didnââ¬â¢t do it just because you could. Because I was ââ¬Ëbeautiful and I was wonderful and you wanted me.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Listen to me ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"No. You listen to me. If I want to avoid you, let me avoid you. Donââ¬â¢t show up at my house drunk and try to force your way into a dialogue. It makes you more of an asshole than youââ¬â¢d be otherwise. I donââ¬â¢t want to talk to you. Not anytime soon. Maybe not ever.â⬠ââ¬Å"Foreverââ¬â¢s a long time.â⬠He leaned closer, one hand on my arm. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t you think youââ¬â¢re overreacting to one fuck? Besides, you canââ¬â¢t cut me off. Youââ¬â¢ve got to help me with Dana.â⬠ââ¬Å"No,â⬠I declared icily. ââ¬Å"I do not. Youââ¬â¢re on your own with that. And if you get sent to Guam, then itââ¬â¢s your own fucking fault. Maybe itââ¬â¢ll give you some time to think about your relations with women outside of business.â⬠ââ¬Å"Damn it ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Georgina?â⬠We both turned and saw Seth standing in the hallway. Bastien and I were close ââ¬â too close ââ¬â but not romantically close. Anyone with half a brain could tell we were locked in a dispute. Our postures radiated it, as did our expressions. The grip Bastien held on my arm was not friendly. ââ¬Å"Are you okay?â⬠Seth asked carefully. His words came out low and measured, but I saw something unfamiliar in his expression. Not anger, but something else kindling in his eyes. He had told me once he chose his battles carefully, and I wondered then what he would do if he thought the incubus was a real threat to me. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re fine,â⬠I said. I broke from Bastienââ¬â¢s grasp, and he didnââ¬â¢t fight it. ââ¬Å"Yes,â⬠he agreed with a cold smile. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re fine.â⬠He walked past me but stopped when he was even with Seth. ââ¬Å"You should be flattered,â⬠Bastien told him. ââ¬Å"Most women invoke God during sex, but Fleur yells your name. One would have thought you were a deity, considering how many times she paid homage to you last night.â⬠He continued on to the living room, and I didnââ¬â¢t even stick around to see Sethââ¬â¢s reaction. I stormed after Bastien. ââ¬Å"Get out,â⬠I told him. I looked over at the other immortals. ââ¬Å"All of you, get out now.â⬠Peter, Cody, and Hugh stared at me in astonishment. Iââ¬â¢d kicked them out a number of times, but none of them had ever heard me use this voice on them. Consequently, they heeded it. They scrambled out the door in under a minute, Bastien shooting me a dark glance as he left. When they were gone, I took a deep breath and turned to Seth. Anger and despair boiled inside of me. ââ¬Å"Let me guess. You want to know what he meant.â⬠His face was unreadable. ââ¬Å"Honestly, I donââ¬â¢t know.â⬠He suddenly sounded tired. ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t know if I want to.â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah, well, Iââ¬â¢ll tell you anyway.â⬠The words tore at me while coming out, but I really didnââ¬â¢t want to hold onto the secret anymore. Not only because Bastien had given it away but also because I knew I wasnââ¬â¢t going to be able to stand having it fester inside of me. It hurt too much. Talking to the incubus had made me realize that. So while I didnââ¬â¢t mention the pictures, I told Seth everything else. Everything. When I finished, he didnââ¬â¢t say anything. He stared at some nonexistent spot in the air, face blank once more. After a couple of minutes of aching silence, he finally turned back to me. ââ¬Å"So. How was I?â⬠How to cite Succubus on Top CHAPTER 17, Essay examples

Developmental Psychology and Stage Statutory Framework free essay sample
Purpose and aims of the Early Years Foundation Stage 1. 1 Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A childââ¬â¢s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose to use early years services they want to know that provision will keep their children safe and help them to thrive. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides that assurance. The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution, and achieving economic well-being by: setting the standards for the learning, development and care young children should experience when they are attending a setting outside their family home, ensuring that every child makes progress and that no child gets left behind; providing for equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice and ensuring that every child is included and not disadvantaged because of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties or disabilities, gender or ability; creating the framework for partnership working between parents and professionals, and between all the settings that the child attends; improving quality and consistency in the early years sector through a universal set of standards which apply to all settings, endin g the distinction between care and learning in the existing frameworks, and providing the basis for the inspection and regulation regime; laying a secure foundation for future learning through learning and development that is planned around the individual needs and interests of the child, and informed by the use of ongoing observational assessment. 1. 2 à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ Context and legal responsibilities 1. 3 The EYFS is a central part of the ten year childcare strategy Choice for parents, the best start for children and the landmark Childcare Act 2006. The Act provides the context for the delivery of the EYFS and taken together with the other elements of the strategy, the EYFS will be central to the delivery of the new duties on improving outcomes and reducing inequalities. Recent years have seen significant developments in early years practice and standards. The EYFS builds on these and practitioners will recognise continuity with the principles, pedagogy and approach of the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage, the Birth to Three Matters framework, and the National Standards for Under 8s Daycare and Childminding. These three frameworks are replaced by the EYFS and will be repealed. The EYFS is given legal force through an Order and Regulations made under the Act. From September 2008 it will be mandatory for all schools and early years providers in Ofsted registered settings attended by young children ââ¬â that is children from birth to the end of the academic year in which a child has their fifth birthday. 1. 4 1. 5 The Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework 00267-2008BKT-EN à © Crown copyright 2008 07 1. 6 The term ââ¬â¢early years providerââ¬â¢ includes: maintained schools; non-maintained schools; independent schools; and childcare registered by Ofsted on the Early Years Register (to be introduced in September 2008), all of which are required to meet the EYFS requirements. From September 2008 it is the legal responsibility of these providers to ensure that their provision meets the learning and development requirements, and complies with the welfare regulations, as required by Section 40 of the Act. About this document 1. 7 This document contains the statutory framework for the EYFS. It sets out the legal requirements relating to learning and development (the early learning goals; the educational programmes; and the assessment arrangements) in Section 2 and the legal requirements relating to welfare (safeguarding and promoting childrenââ¬â¢s welfare; suitable people; suitable premises, environment and equipment; organisation; and documentation) in Section 3. The learning and development requirements are given legal force by the Early Years Foundation Stage (Learning and Development Requirements) Order 2007 made under Section 39 (1) (a) of the Childcare Act 2006. The welfare requirements are given legal force by Regulations made under Section 39 (1) (b) of the Childcare Act 2006. Together, the Order, the Regulations and the Statutory Framework document make up the legal basis of the EYFS. The requirements in this document have statutory force by virtue of Section 44 (1) of the Childcare Act 2006. Providers have a duty to ensure that their early years provision complies with the learning and development requirements, and the welfare requirements. In addition, this document contains statutory guidance. All providers must have regard to this guidance, which means they must take it into account and, if they decide to depart from it, they must have clear reasons for doing so and be able to demonstrate that their alternative approach achieves the ends described in this guidance. Ofsted will take account of any failure to have regard to this guidance when exercising its functions, including any proceedings which are brought under the Act. This document is referred to as the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and is part of a package of materials which comprise: this document ââ¬â legal requirements relating to learning and development (including assessment) and the welfare requirements and statutory guidance; Practice Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage booklet ââ¬â the areas of Learning and Development, non-statutory guidance, additional advice and information; EYFS resources for providers and practitioners ââ¬â CD-ROM, poster and Principles into Practice cards. 1. 8 1. 9 à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ A principled approach 1. 10 The EYFS principles which guide the work of all practitioners are grouped into four distinct but complementary themes: à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ A Unique Child Positive Relationships Enabling Environments Learning and Development 08 The Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework 00267-2008BKT-EN à © Crown copyright 2008 1. 11 Effective practice in the EYFS is built on these four guiding themes. They provide a context for the requirements and describe how practitioners should support the development, learning and care of young children. The themes are each broken down into four commitments describing how the principles can be put into practice. The EYFS Principles into Practice cards explain how practitioners can use these in their day-to-day work. à ¦ A Unique Child recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. The commitments are focused around development; inclusion; safety; and health and well-being. Positive Relationships describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person. The commitments are focused around respect; partnership with parents; supporting learning; and the role of the key person. Enabling Environments explains that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending childrenââ¬â¢s development and learning. The commitments are focused around observation, assessment and planning; support for every child; the learning environment; and the wider context ââ¬â transitions, continuity, and multi-agency working. Learning and Development recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected. à ¦ à ¦ à ¦ 1. 12 This approach ensures that the EYFS meets the overarching aim of improving outcomes and reflects that it is every childââ¬â¢s right to grow up safe; healthy; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; and with economic well-being. Setting the standards 1. 13 The EYFS sets standards to enable early years providers to reflect the rich and personalised experience that many parents give their children at home. Like parents, providers should deliver individualised learning, development and care that enhances the development of the children in their care and gives those children the best possible start in life. Every child should be supported individually to make progress at their own pace and children who need extra support to fulfil their potential should receive special consideration. All providers have an equally important role to play in childrenââ¬â¢s early years experiences ââ¬â for example, a childminder who sees a child for two hours a day should consider what a childââ¬â¢s individual needs are at that time of day, and ensure that the provision they deliver is both appropriate to those needs and complementary to the education and care provided in the childââ¬â¢s other setting(s). All types of providers have the potential to deliver the EYFS to an excellent standard. Providing for equality of opportunity 1. 4 Providers have a responsibility to ensure positive attitudes to diversity and difference ââ¬â not only so that every child is included and not disadvantaged, but also so that they learn from the earliest age to value diversity in others and grow up making a pos itive contribution to society. Practitioners should focus on each childââ¬â¢s individual learning, development and care needs by: à ¦ à ¦ removing or helping to overcome barriers for children where these already exist; being alert to the early signs of needs that could lead to later difficulties and responding quickly and appropriately, involving other agencies as necessary; stretching and challenging all children. à ¦ The Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework 00267-2008BKT-EN à © Crown copyright 2008 09 1. 5 All children, irrespective of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties or disabilities, gender or ability should have the opportunity to experience a challenging and enjoyable programme of learning and development. Creating the framework for partnership working 1. 16 Partnership working underpins successful delivery of the EYFS in a number of different ways. à ¦ Where children receive education and care in more than one setting, practitioners must ensure continuity and coherence by sharing relevant information with each other and with parents. Patterns of attendance should be a key factor in practitionersââ¬â¢ planning. Close working between early years practitioners and parents is vital for the identification of childrenââ¬â¢s learning needs and to ensure a quick response to any area of particular difficulty. Parents and famili es are central to a childââ¬â¢s ell-being and practitioners should support this important relationship by sharing information and offering support for extending learning in the home. Practitioners will frequently need to work with professionals from other agencies, such as local and community health services, or where children are looked after by the local authority, to identify and meet needs and use their knowledge and advice to provide childrenââ¬â¢s social care with the best learning opportunities and environments for all children. à ¦ à ¦ Improving quality and consistency 1. 17 The EYFS brings together and simplifies the learning and development and welfare requirements, in addition to ending the distinction between care and learning and between birth-to-three and three-to-five provision.
